Paradise

Paradise

Luk_23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Luk 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

Where is paradise? Is this the same as sheol or hades in the New Testament, the lower parts of the earth.

Paradise is up, not down. The Apostle Paul was caught up to paradise,

2Co_12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Abraham’s bosom is down in the lower parts of the earth .

Luk_16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk_16:23 And in he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Paradise

Luk_23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Reading this verse as this translation presents it, leaves one wondering how this man could be up in paradise and Jesus be down in the lower parts of the earth.

me G1700 (emou):

Strong Definition: A prolonged form of G3449; of me: – me, mine, my.
Thayer Definition: 1) me, my, mine, etc.

used one other time Rom_16:13 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine. (denoting ownership)

KM: And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou shalt be with mine in paradise.

Lead Captivity Captive.

Eph_4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Eph_4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph_4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

The wave offering, first fruits.

Hell Enlarged which sense had been enlarged to encompase all of the lowest part we call . paradise is not Abraham’s boosom as found in the lower parts of sheol

Isa_5:14 Therefore hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

It is finished

How could the man on the cross be in paradise prior to Christ leading the captivity captive to paradise.

Joh_19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

While Christ on the cross had fulfilled all propheices relating to the shedding of his blood as the spotless lamb such as

Psa_69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

however all things have yet to be fulfilled as stated in Eph_4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things

1Co_15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
1Co_15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
1Co_15:27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

Eph_1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph_1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph_1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph_1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph_1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Heb_2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

For this reason, seeing as Christ had fulfilled on that day, that which was necessary to purchase the souls of the dead saints, the man on the cross was permitted to enter paradise on that same day.

Then as Christ continued to fulfill all things he led captivity, the saints in Abraham’s bosom, captive. He led them to paradise.

Rev_2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA Franciscan Father Floyd Lotito, longtime director of many programs at St. Anthony Foundation since 1970, died on July 14th, 2009. He was 74 years old.

Equally at home with A-list socialites and the poorest residents of San Francisco, Fr. Lotito was a passionate advocate for the poor throughout his entire life. In San Francisco, he is perhaps best known for his work with St. Anthony Foundation, where he has served in various capacities since 1968.

Fr. Floyd affirmed the dignity of each person he met, calling them brother and sister, says St. Anthony Foundation Board President Fr. John Hardin, OFM. He used his incredible gifts of communication, presence, planning and charisma to build relationships with people from the entire community, from politicians, journalists, philanthropists and athletes to those living on the margins of our society.

Alfonso Joseph Lotito was born in Los Angeles on July 28, 1934. His father, Joseph, came from a family of shepherds in Bari, Italy. His mother, Filomena Pirri Lotito, was a first generation Californian. He attended Divine Savior Grammar School in Los Angeles, and then won an academic scholarship to Cathedral High School. In 1949 he entered St. Anthony Seminary in Santa Barbara, and entered the Franciscan Order on July 12, 1953, receiving his religious name, Floyd. He was ordained a priest on December 17, 1960.

Fr. Lotito received his B.A. from San Luis Rey College and his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Old Mission Theological Seminary in Santa Barbara, CA in 1961. Fr. Lotito received an M.A. in Speech and Communication Arts from Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1970. He held a lifetime California teaching credential and taught high school for six years, including five years at St. Anthony Seminary High School in Santa Barbara and one year at Serra High School. He taught English, Latin, Spanish, Italian and speech.

Fr. Lotito also served as a parish priest for parishes in California, Oregon and Wisconsin, and also was a spiritual director, chaplain, retreat director and counselor for many organizations. A renowned speaker, he delivered the benediction at the 1984 Democratic National Convention, and blessed the opening of Pacific Bell Park at the pre-game ceremonies in 2000. His work was written about in Newsweek Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner, and many other publications.

At St. Anthony Foundation, Fr. Lotito served from 1970 to 1981 as Deputy Executive Director, working directly for the founder of St. Anthony Foundation, Fr. Alfred Boeddeker, OFM. Fr. Lotito also worked as Director of Public Relations, Director of St. Anthony Dining Room, and as a chaplain for St. Anthonys. Under his leadership, St. Anthony Dining Room began serving meals on Sundays in 1981. In 1983, he also developed a drop-in hygiene program at a time when few such services were available to homeless people in San Francisco. He also oversaw the Peoples Picnic in Golden Gate Park in 1984, a day when St. Anthony Dining Room prepared a festive picnic for its guests. Since 1989, he served as a consultant, providing advice and service to staff, donors, clients, and the boards of St. Anthony Foundation.

Fr. Lotito was also a familiar figure in the Tenderloin and throughout the City of St. Francis. Since 1990, each year he would preside over the Blessing of the Animals at St. Boniface Church, adjacent to St. Anthony Foundation. The blessing occurred on or around the Feast of St. Francis, October 4, and drew hundreds of cats, dogs, snakes, guinea pigs, and their guardians/owners. Since 1999, he also presided at the Blessing of the Taxi Fleet, also in front of St. Boniface Church, where cab drivers would line up for a block to receive a benediction.

St. Anthony Foundation is best known for its Free Dining Room, which serves an average of 2,600 meals each day. In addition to the Dining Room, St. Anthonys programs include one of the oldest and largest free medical clinics in San Francisco; a free clothing and furniture program; a residence for low-income senior women; a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center; an employment program and technology lab; a social work center; and educational programs for the community on issues of poverty and homelessness. St. Anthony Foundation does not accept any federal, state, or local government money, and is entirely funded by the private sector.

Funeral services for Fr. Floyd will be held at St. Boniface Church, 133 Golden Gate Ave in San Francisco, on Tuesday, July 21st at 10am. A vigil service will be held on Monday, July 20th at 4pm on Monday, also at St. Boniface. Donations can be made in Father Floyds name to St. Anthony Foundation.
